Rocky Mount, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan men's soccer team opened USA South play over the weekend by splitting matches at Covenant and Piedmont, while the Bishop women dropped a 3-0 decision to Bridgewater in their home opener.
On the men's side, Wesleyan posted a 4-0 shutout of Covenant College on Friday in Lookout Mountain. Sophomore Baboucarr Njie tallied a hat trick, while freshman keeper Jordan Williams made a trio of saves to secure his first collegiate shutout in goal. The Bishops out-shot the Scots 21-10 on the day en route to their first win of the season. Unfortunately on Saturday, Nathan Metzger's free kick goal in the 11th minute was just enough to seal a 1-0 victory for the Lions of Piedmont. Wesleyan held a 16-5 advantage in shots in the match, including a 6-2 edge in shots-on-goal.
In women's action, NCWC hosted its home opener versus Bridgewater on Saturday. The Eagles managed a slim 12-11 lead in shots, which resulted in a pair of first half goals in the 15th and 17th minutes. BC added an insurance goal midway the final period to notch the 3-0 victory.
Both soccer teams return to action at home next week. Wesleyan's women host Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday at 4:00pm, while the men continue conference play on Saturday versus Huntingdon at 2:00pm.
