Four Battling Bishops Earn USA South Weekly Accolades

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South has released its weekly awards for October 30th, and N.C. Wesleyan is pleased to announce that four Battling Bishops have earned recognition in their respective sports of football and men's soccer.

Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Brandon Thompson, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman quarterback from Union, South Carolina accumulated 340 yards of total offense with five passing touchdowns in a 58-42 loss to Brevard last week. Thompson completed 24 passes for 314 yards with no interceptions. He also carried the ball five times for 26 yards.

Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
Keyon Washington, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman defensive back from Jacksonville, Florida totaled seven total tackles in Wesleyan's loss to Brevard on Saturday. Washington tallied five solo tackles and two assisted takedowns.

Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Sheriff Secka, N.C. Wesleyan - The junior midfielder from Olney, Maryland scored the lone goal of the match in a 1-0 victory over USA South rival Methodist in the team's only regular season action last week. Secka's 57th minute goal helped secure the USA South East Division Regular Season title for the Bishops. 

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jordan Williams, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman goalkeeper from Manassas, Virginia notched a shutout in the Bishops' 1-0 victory over the Monarchs. Williams stopped both shots he faced to secure the East Division crown.
