ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - September 11th is a time for remembering our fallen heroes from New York to Pennsylvania to Washington, D.C. It is also a time to recognize those local heroes that risk their lives daily to insure the safety of Rocky Mount and its surrounding community. For this reason, the student-athletes of North Carolina Wesleyan annually honor our local policemen and firefighters by distributing season passes for all Battling Bishop sporting events. The passes, which are good for up to four people, were delivered to area stations by Wesleyan student-athletes this week following the 17th anniversary of this tragic event.
The NCWC Men's Basketball coaches went to the Rocky Mount Police Dept. Wednesday and delivered their 9/11 passes to Chief Williams, pictured below. The Bishop women's basketball team went downtown to the local George Street Fire Station to drop off their 9/11 passes as well.
The Wesleyan Baseball also stopped by the Rocky Mount Fire Station 7 on Highway 4 while the Women's Soccer team stopped by the Fire Station to greet the firemen as well. The Softball team then stopped by the Nashville Police Dept. to deliver more passes.
No matter the destination, however, Wesleyan athletes benefitted from getting out into the community to show support for this worthy cause.
This marks the 16th season that the Battling Bishops have honored the tragedy of September 11th, 2001 by distributing these passes, which serve as a small token of our gratitude for our local law enforcement.
