N.C. Wesleyan Announces Plans for 2016 Athletics Gala

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics has announced the date and keynote speaker for its 2016 Athletics Gala to be held on Wednesday, May 11th in the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts. Legendary basketball coach and author Mike Jarvis will headline the event, which will feature both live and silent auctions.

The evening dedicated to "Moving Forward & Believing Big" will begin at 6:00pm with a reception and silent auction followed by dinner at 7:00pm. Jarvis’ keynote address and the always entertaining live auction will cap a lovely evening on campus at one of the area’s premier venues.

Bishop fans are sure to enjoy the words and wisdom of Coach Mike Jarvis, who enjoyed 25 years as a Division I head coach and guided Boston University, George Washington University, and St. John's University to the NCAA Tournament. He remains, in fact, one of just eight coaches to accomplish the feat. Highlights of his career include a 2003 season that saw him lead St. John's to the National Invitational Tournament Championship and write his first book, "Skills for Life."  Following the conclusion of his SJU tenure, he enjoyed a new career as a college basketball analyst with ESPN and guest writer for YahooSports.com.

In 2008, Jarvis returned to sidelines as the head men's basketball coach at Florida Atlantic University. In his third year, he led the Owls to their first-ever Sun Belt Championship and NIT bid -- accomplishments that earned him "Coach of the Year" honors from the SBC and NABC. Just six years later, the 2013-14 season saw Jarvis become the winningest basketball coach in FAU history. He completed his coaching career with an impressive record of 648-351.

A 1967 graduate of Northeastern University, Coach Jarvis earned his Master's degree in Education from Boston University in 1984. He currently owns a place in four Halls of Fame: Cambridge High School, Massachusetts Coaches Association, New England Coaches Association, and George Washington University. His life after coaching has seen him continue to work as a college basketball analyst for Fox Sports, as well as travel across America as a professional speaker sharing his stories and leadership principles that can be found in his second book, "Everybody Needs a Head Coach."

Today Coach Jarvis and his wife Connie own and operate Team Jarvis, LLC, and reside in Boynton Beach, Florida.
