Rocky Mount, N.C. - On Tuesday, January 6th, the North Carolina Wesleyan women's soccer and volleyball teams departed on an overseas excursion to Barcelona, Spain. The 7-night trip featured two matches for each squad, and for many, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the culture of this historic city firsthand.

After two days of travel, the Bishops enjoyed their first full day in Barcelona on Thursday, the 8th, beginning with a guided tour of the city and ending with soccer's first match versus Penya Blanc Y Blava.  Volleyball faced the same opponent on Friday after a day exploring the seaside village of Sitges.

Saturday and Sunday featured two full days of sight-seeing, culminating with a chance to take in a La Liga Game featuring FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. After competing in their final two matches versus Sant Bol, both squads were able to visit sites such as the Mall of Barcelona and the Salvador Dali Museum, among others, to wrap up the trip.

Wesleyan faculty member Dr. Andrew Stern accompanied the teams on the trip, and after a series of assignments, student-athletes will receive a 1-hour course credit.

Bishop players blogged along the way, as well as posted to social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The blog can be accessed at http://ncwcsports.wordpress.com, while social media feeds can be accessed via www.ncwcsports.com (@bishopsports & @ncwcsports) using the hashtag #BishopsInBarcelona.
