NCWC Tennis Earns Four USA South Weekly Awards

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for March 23rd with four Battling Bishops earning honors in their respective sports. Senior Robert Kjellberg picked up his second straight Player of the Week award in men's tennis, while freshman teammate Sebastian Sikh was tabbed Rookie of the Week. Wesleyan also swept the women's tennis awards as sophomore Natalia Lopez and freshman Maria Fernanda Orona garnered Player and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Robert Kjellberg, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior from Vetlanda, Sweden earned a 3-0 record at both the #1 singles and #1 doubles positions last week for the Bishops. In singles-action, Kjellberg defeated top-seeded USA South opponents from Methodist and Ferrum to go along with a three-set victory over an opponent from 16th-ranked Bates. In doubles, he teamed with Sebastian Sikh to collect the three wins.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Sebastian Sikh, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Eskilstuna, Sweden earned a 3-0 record at the #2 singles and #1 doubles positions last week for the Bishops. In singles-action, Sikh defeated USA South opposition from Methodist and Ferrum to go along with a straight-set victory over an opponent from 16th-ranked Bates. In doubles, he teamed with Robert Kjellberg to collect the three wins.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Natalia Lopez, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore from Maracaibo, Venezuela earned a 2-0 record at both the #1 singles and #1 doubles positions against USA South competition last week for the Bishops. In singles action, Lopez earned wins over top-seeded opposition from Methodist and Ferrum. In doubles play, Lopez teamed with Maria Fernanda Orona to grab the two victories.

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Maria Fernanda Orona, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Durango, Mexico earned a 2-0 record in both singles and doubles action against USA South competition last week for the Bishops. In singles play, Orona earned a win at the #3 position over Methodist and a victory at the #2 spot over Ferrum. In doubles action, Orona teamed with Natalia Lopez at the #1 position to collect the two wins.
