Battling Bishops Sweep Pacers in Tennis Action

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop men's and women's tennis teams of N.C. Wesleyan picked up a pair of sweeps versus William Peace University on Wednesday afternoon at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center.

In women's doubles, the tandem of Natalia Lopez and Maria Fernanda Orona anchored their usual position and cruised to an 8-0 win at the top seed. Freshmen Rachel Hui and Sofia Gonzalez were 8-1 winners at #2, while Valeria Berber and Sofia Prado teamed for an 8-0 win at #3.

Singles play saw the Bishops continue to dominate as Lopez, Hui, Berber, Gonzalez and Prado did not surrender a point in their straight set victories. Orona allowed just three points in her 6-0, 6-3 win at #3.

On the men's side, doubles play mirrored that of the women as top-seeded Robert Kjellberg and Sebastian Sikh posted an 8-0 victory. Fernando Nardelli and Eduardo Ugalde turned in an 8-1 win at #2, followed by an 8-0 victory for Fabio Pereira and Andres Gomez at #3.

In singles action, Pereira surrendered just one point in his straight-set win at #3, while Kjellberg, Sikh, Nardelli, Gomez and Ugalde were 6-0, 6-0 winners.

Wesleyan's men now stand at 10-5 on the season, while the women move to 10-2 overall and remain undefeated in USA South play at 10-0. The Battling Bishop women face Norfolk State on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference match being played at Old Dominion University, and both teams return to action at home over the weekend versus Huntingdon and LaGrange. The men will also host Christopher Newport Sunday afternoon.
