Program-Record Six Bishops Earn Weekly Honors

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for October 6th with a program-record six Battling Bishops earning honors in their respective sports. Football led the way with a trio of honorees, including Jacques Alston as Offensive Player of the Week, Dwayne Bishop as Offensive Rookie of the Week and Anthony Janezic as Defensive Rookie of the Week. Men's soccer had two players garner recognition as Caetano Viegas was tabbed Player of the Week and Jesper Olsson Rookie of the Week. Finally, in volleyball, Christina Huber was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Jacques Alston, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior running back from Kenly, North Carolina accounted for 269 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in a 34-30 win over USA South foe Averett last week. Alston carried the ball 18 times for 196 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, he caught four passes for 69 yards and a touchdown. For his efforts, Alston also received an Honorable Mention nod for USA College Football's Team of the Week.

Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Dwayne Bishop, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman wide receiver from Murfreesboro, North Carolina made just one reception, but it was the game-winning touchdown with 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of Wesleyan's 34-30 victory Averett. Bishop's catch was a 22-yard score that put the Bishops up for good.

Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
Anthony Janezic, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman defensive back from Tampa, Florida made 17 total tackles and forced a fumble in NCWC's 34-30 victory over Averett. Janezic tallied 11 solo tackles with six assisted takedowns, including one tackle-for-loss.

Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Caetano Viegas, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore forward from Apucarana, Brazil tallied two goals, both of which were eventual game-winners, in a 2-0 week versus USA South competition for the Bishops. In a 3-1 win over Methodist, Viegas scored in the 82nd minute to give his team the lead. In a 3-0 victory over Ferrum, Viegas tallied the first goal of the contest in the fourth minute.

Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Jesper Olsson, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman goalkeeper from Stockholm, Sweden helped the Bishops to a 2-0 record last week versus USA South competition by making seven total saves in 180 minutes in net. In a 3-1 win over Methodist, Olsson stopped two of the three shots-on-goal he faced. In a 3-0 victory over Ferrum, Olsson made five saves to earn the shutout.

Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Christina Huber, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore defensive specialist from Virginia Beach, Virginia averaged 5.2 digs per set as the Bishops posted a 2-1 record versus USA South competition last week. In a 3-1 win over Methodist, Huber totaled 28 digs, five assists and one service ace. In a 3-0 loss to LaGrange, Huber posted eight digs and two assists. Finally, in a 3-0 win over Huntingdon, Huber contributed 16 digs, two service aces and one assist.
