Top-10 Moments of 2014-2015... #7 Scalf Court Makeover

Rocky Mount, N.C. - On Mondays this summer, the NCWC Department of Athletics will be counting down the top-10 moments of the 2014-2015 season. This week, our #7 moment features our "Scalf Court Makeover" completed in May.

#7... SCALF COURT MAKEOVER (MAY 2015)
Undoubtedly, one of the highlights this offseason has been the unveiling of the newly-redesigned Don Scalf Court. The updated design features thinner lines on a lightly-stained hardwood, which significantly brightens the facility. Coaches opted for a classic "W" at center court, while other aesthetic additions include stained USA South logos inside the arcs, block lettering along the baselines, and of course, the signature of the court's namesake.

Built in 1963, Everett Gymnasium serves as home to Don Scalf Court and seats up to 1,200 Bishop fans. The facility provides a great homecourt advantage for our Battling Bishop basketball and volleyball teams.

As for the court's namesake, Don Scalf taught for 36 years, coached for 18 years and served as Athletics Director for six years at NCWC. During his coaching career, Scalf's teams won Conference championships in basketball (1966) and golf (1970, 1971, 1972, 1973), earning him Conference Coach of the Year honors on four occasions.

In addition to his role as the first coach in both Bishop basketball and golf history, he also served as head coach for the College's inaugural volleyball team in 1974. He is a member of the inaugural Hall of Fame classes for both North Carolina Wesleyan (1999) and the USA South Athletic Conference (2010).
