Ken Bowers was a standout soccer player for the Battling Bishops from 1985 to 1988, completing his career among the program’s top-5 all-time leading scorers with 55 total points (17 goals, 21 assists). A four-year starter and two-year team captain, Bowers was the only player from the 53-team South Region to earn NCAA Division III All-American honors in 1988, becoming just the fourth Bishop to accomplish the feat at that point in program history.

Bowers led the Bishops to four straight winning seasons during his tenure, including back-to-back Dixie Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. NCWC lost on penalty kicks to eventual national champion UNC Greensboro in the 1987 South Regional final, then lost 1-0 to Emory University in 1988’s first round action. Overall, the talented midfielder led his Bishops to a 58-18-6 record during his four-year career under NCWC Hall of Fame Coach Tony Ferrell.

Individually, Bowers tallied a career-high 22 points during his 1988 All-America senior season, netting seven goals and dishing out eight assists en route to Most Valuable Player and First Team All-Conference honors. Additionally, his eight assists ranked among the program’s top-5 season totals, while his 21 career assists ranked third all-time at the completion of his eligibility.

A product of Holmes Beach, Fla. and the current owner/president of R&C Roll Grinding, Inc., Bowers was most recently honored as a member of the USA South Conference’s 50-Year Anniversary team in men’s soccer.
