Terry Britt was a member of the Battling Bishop men’s golf program from 1970-73.  A three time Most Valuable Player (1970, 1972, 1973), he remains one of only two players in program history to garner MVP accolades on three occasions.

After serving in the Air Force until November of 1968, Britt joined head coach Don Scalf’s Battling Bishops for the 1969-70 season. The talented freshman quickly made a name for himself by earning his first MVP award and leading North Carolina Wesleyan to the first of its four consecutive Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

Britt married in the fall of 1970 and did not play the 1970-71 season to allow his new bride, Debbie, to complete her undergraduate degree at UNC Greensboro.  He returned to his native Rocky Mount the following season and promptly picked up where he left off by earning the second of his MVP nods and the first of his two First Team All-DIAC selections.  Britt, in fact, is one of only two players in history to twice be named a First Team All-Conference performer.  That same 1971-72 season also saw the Bishops pick up their third straight league title.

His final Most Valuable Player and All-Conference awards came during Wesleyan’s 1972-1973 slate, marking the fourth and final DIAC Conference Championship for the program.  Britt completed his career as one of the most decorated golfers in program history, having led his team to a 34-15 head-to-head record over his three seasons… a span of success that remains unprecedented today.

Britt received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1973.
