Doug Flowers was a catcher for the North Carolina Wesleyan
baseball team, playing three seasons from 1988-1990. He was a First
Team Dixie All-Conference selection in each of those three seasons,
earning Second Team All-American honors in 1988 and First
Team accolades in 1990.
The Bishops won the Dixie Conference Championship in 1988
with an 11-1 record (32-10 overall) and advanced to the NCAA
Regional Finals that season. In 1989, Flowers helped lead
Wesleyan to the NCAA Division III National Championship as
they defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 8-7, in 13 innings. The Bishops
were Co-Champions of the Dixie in 1990 and made a repeat visit to
the World Series, finishing third.
At the time of his induction, Flowers was third all-time in
Wesleyan history with 36 homeruns and second in career batting
average (.405) and runs batted in (182). His 70 RBIs in 1985 are
tied for first in Bishop history.
