Diamond Bishops Drop Two in Non-Conference Action

Rocky Mount, N.C. / Lynchburg, Va. - North Carolina Wesleyan's baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games over the past two days, falling to Randolph-Macon at home by an 8-3 score on Thursday before suffering an 11-1 defeat at Lynchburg on Friday.

Versus R-MC, the Yellow Jackets opened up an 8-0 lead after two innings of play thanks to some timely hitting coupled with a pair of Bishop fielding errors.

Although Justin Shearin, Will Beasley and Jake Swartout combined for five scoreless innings of one-hit baseball down the stretch, the early deficit proved too much for NCWC to overcome as sophomore starter Jackson Pleasant took the loss on the mound.

Offensively, junior Jake Alexander went 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs, while freshman Stephen Machin was 2-for-4 and drove in a run with one of his two doubles on the day.

At Lynchburg, the Hornets followed in the footsteps of the Yellow Jackets by jumping out to a 7-0 lead after four complete. Tyler Clark drove in Wesleyan's lone run in the fifth to spoil the shutout, but LC answered with four runs over its next two at-bats for the 11-1 final.

Senior Pat Laffin and freshman Lee Dunn each ripped two hits for NCWC.

The Bishops (15-19) travel to USA South foe Greensboro College on Saturday and Sunday for a two-game league set. Both games are slated to begin at 1:00pm.
