Gardner Named USA South Baseball Player of the Week

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for February 27th. The Battling Bishops are pleased to announce that sophomore Nate Gardner has earned the first Player of the Week honor of his career in baseball.

A native of Hertford, N.C., Gardner went a combined 12-for-23 (.522) with a .542 on-base percentage and a .652 slugging percentage to help the Bishops post a 5-0 record last week. He added eight runs scored, seven RBIs, three doubles, and one steal while boasting a perfect fielding percentage at third base and on the mound.

In a 20-1 win over Maine-Presque Isle, Gardner scored one run and swiped one base, then in a 13-12 victory over St. Andrews, he batted 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two doubles. Finally, in a three-game sweep of USA South foe Averett, Gardner was a combined 9-for-14 with four runs scored, seven RBIs, and one double. Additionally on the mound, the righty started two games last week, turning in a 1-0 record and allowing just one earned run in 11 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts.
