Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop baseball team went 2-2 at this week's Ripken Spring Training Tourney held in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and is now set to host its Second Annual Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday.

Wesleyan opened play on Monday with a 14-6 loss to a talented Mt. Aloysius squad. After plating four runs in the top of the second on a pair of RBIs apiece from Logan Andrews and Brad Pennington, the Bishops saw their lead cut to one in MAC's half of the frame. NCWC held on to its 4-3 lead until the bottom of the fifth. Aloysius proceeded to make quick work of the deficit with 11 runs in their final four at-bats. Andrews paced the Bishops with a 3-for-5 showing at the plate, while Daniel Washburn (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound.

Tuesday saw Wesleyan split its doubleheader with Penn College. After Penn stole the opener by a 7-6 tally in extra innings, the Bishops rebounded for a 10-1 win in the nightcap. Pennington led the offense with a trio of hits, two runs scored, and a pair of RBIs. Brynner Porter (2-0) picked up the win on the hill, allowing one run on five hits over six complete. He also added six Ks.

Wednesday's finale saw head coach Charlie Long use a multitude of players in a 17-9 victory over PSU-Berks. Trey Croom went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Luis Palencia finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Richard Harrell (1-0) tossed five innings en route to his first victory of the season.

The Bishops are now 12-5 overall heading into this weekend's USA South 3-game series versus Covenant College. Play kicks off at noon on Friday with a doubleheader at Bauer Field.  The finale is slated for 12:00pm on Saturday, and Wesleyan will be hosting its Second Annual Cancer Awareness Day. The Bishops, who will be sporting their pink-trimmed uniforms in support of the cause, are encouraging their fans to also wear pink.

Additionally, Wesleyan is asking all fans to consider contributing to this year's event in one of two ways. First, in lieu of admission, the team will be accepting donations for a former Bishop player and his family currently battling the disease. Secondly, all concession stand profits and donations will be given to the Kids vs. Cancer Fund. Please join our student-athletes in support of these worthy causes!
