Case Western Takes Two from Wesleyan to Steal 3-Game Series

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The NCWC baseball team dropped the rubber game of its 3-games series with Case Western Reserve on Thursday, falling by a 6-4 score at Bauer Field.

GAME 1: SPARTANS 15, BISHOPS 5
Case Western got all the offense it would need with a 6-spot in their opening at-bat, finishing with 15 runs on 16 hits in the game. CRWU's Tyler Wypiszenski led the way with five RBIs, while sophomore Logan Andrews drove in two for the Bishops.

GAME 2: BISHOPS 5, SPARTANS 2
NCWC's Luis Palencia and Brad Pennington both reached and scored in the first for an early 2-0 Bishop lead. Later tied 2-2, Wesleyan plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth -- the eventual game-winner coming on a RBI-bunt single by sophomore Cedrick Kornegay, who finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Senior Joseph Borgerding (2-2) secured the final four outs of the game en route to his second win of the season.

GAME 3: SPARTANS 6, BISHOPS 4
A crucial Bishop fielding error in the first opened the door for 3-run homer by Wypiszenski, while CWRU plated three more unearned runs in the eighth to steal the series. Pennington, Kornegay, and sophomore Nate Gardner each had two hits for the Bishops, with Gardner also blasting a solo homerun.

Wesleyan (16-8) is now set to host USA South foe Greensboro College over the weekend. The 3-game set kicks off on Friday at 3:00pm at Bauer Field, followed by game two and Alumni Recognition Day on Saturday at 1:00pm. The series wraps up at 2:00pm Sunday, and the Bishops will be honoring their 2017 seniors prior to the first pitch.
