Demorest, Ga. - Sophomore Cedrick Kornegay went 5-for-6 with his first career homerun and five RBIs on Sunday, helping his Battling Bishop baseball team secure a 15-6 win over Piedmont College and avoid the series sweep.

The Lions (15-15, 5-10 USA South) had previously taken the first two games on Friday and Saturday by 8-1 and 3-2 scores, respectively.

Looking to avoid the sweep on Sunday, Wesleyan opened up an 8-0 lead in their first three at-bats, beginning with a two-run single by freshman Brad Pennington in the second. Pennington plated two more with a double in his next plate appearance, while senior Tony Sanchez's two-run single capped a 6-run third for the Bishops. The Lions countered with a pair in the bottom of the frame, but the Bishops plated the game's next six runs to go up 14-3, with the latter three coming on Kornegay's blast in the sixth.

The offensive explosion was more than enough for starting pitcher Nate Gardner (3-2) who went eight complete, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and striking out three. Freshman Michael Smith tossed a scoreless ninth to close out the game.

In addition to Kornegay's career day, Trey Croom and Caleb Narron notched three hits apiece, while Pennington finished 2-for-4 with four driven in.

Wesleyan (22-14 overall) finishes conference play with an 11-7 record and will now await seeding for the 2017 USA South Tournament slated to begin in LaGrange, Ga. next Wednesday, April 12th.
