Johnson Powers Bishops to Twinbill Split with Emory University

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's baseball team split a Sunday afternoon twinbill with Emory University at Bauer Field, earning a 5-3 win in the nightcap after dropping the opener by 7-5 score. Junior Max Johnson blasted his third homerun of the season in game one, finishing 3-for-6 on the day with a pair of RBI and two runs scored.

GAME 1: EMORY 7, NCWC 5 (7 innings)
Wesleyan plated four runs in the fifth inning and took a 5-3 lead into the top of the seventh, but the Eagles rallied for four runs on four hits in their final at-bat to steal the 7-5 win. Emory out-hit the Bishops 13-4 in the game, with Jared Gaer (1-0) earning the win in relief by tossing three scoreless innings. Bishop starter Nate Gardner received a no-decision after going six complete and allowing five runs on ten hits with six strikeouts.

GAME 2: NCWC 5, EMORY 3
Shortstop Alec Titmus went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI to help the Bishops salvage the split, providing the big blow in the fifth inning with a two-run double that scored the eventual winning runs. Johnson and sophomore Brad Pennington also had two hits apiece, while J.D. Makauskas (1-1) turned in a stellar outing on the hill to earn his first win of the season. Makauskas threw seven shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out six.

Wesleyan returns to action at home on Wednesday when the Bishops welcome St. Andrews University to Bauer Field for a 2:00pm non-conference tilt.
