ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The 20th ranked NC Wesleyan College Baseball team finished off a conference-opening sweep of Greensboro College on Sunday defeating the Pride 6-4 and 6-2 in the doubleheader from Bauer Field.

The wins over the weekend stretched the Bishops' win streak to 8 straight while improving them to 15-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

GAME 1: NCWC 6, GC 4

Wesleyan got out to a 1-0 lead on a Jackson Murray RBI single in the 4th inning before GC would score all of their runs in the 5th off Bishop starter, freshman Cullen Davis. The Pride scored off of two hit by pitches, a walk, and a sac fly, all with the bases loaded.

However, senior reliever Kevin Williams (2-1) would shut down the Pride after that holding them scoreless and to just two hits over the final 4 and 1/3 frames to pick up the win. He walked one and struck out three while Davis walked three and struck out four.

The Bishops rally began in the 6th inning with a Davie Morgan RBI single while a triple from freshman 1B Jackson Hobbs in the 7th drove in catcher Brad Pennington, who had doubled, in the 7th inning making it 4-3 GC at that point.

Three consecutive run-scoring hits in the 8th then put the Bishops over the top for the win. It started with Murray's RBI double driving in SS Nate Hibbs before freshman Tyson Bass singled in Murray for the go-ahead run. Junior outfielder Zach Lyon then tacked on an insurance run with his RBI single making it 6-4.

Murray finished the game going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles while Morgan went 2 for 4.

GAME 2: NCWC 6, GC 2

Game two began with GC scoring in the first on a bases-loaded walk by starter Payne Stolsworth before Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead in the 5th scoring on a wild pitch and a groundout. GC (4-5, 0-3) would then tie it in the 7th on a single before the Bishops mounted their second straight game-winning rally in the 8th.

The hero this time was again 2B Davie Morgan as he drove in the go-ahead run the 8th on his triple that scored Pennington, who had walked. Hibbs then immediately drove in Morgan on the next play to make it 4-2. Wesleyan would also add two more insurance runs scoring on a GC error and a passed ball.

Picking up the win on the mound was senior Drew Tubb as he tossed five innings of 4-hit one-run ball to grab his 1st win of the season. Tubb walked one and struck out four. Freshman reliever Danny Thompson then came in to close the game striking out two in his scoreless ninth inning.

The 20th ranked Bishops will next return to action on Wednesday at 3 PM when they host CNU.
