MARIETTA, OH - The third seeded NC Wesleyan College Baseball team fell 6-4 on the road in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday morning to regional host and #2 seed Marietta College.

The loss puts the Bishops, 33-9, into the loser's bracket where they will next face #6 seed Penn St.-Behrend (Erie, PA) in an elimination game that began at 1 PM. Wesleyan needs to win that one to advance to tomorrow's next elimination game vs the loser of the Rowan-Marietta matchup, who play at 4 PM Saturday.

Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead in the 4th inning on back to back RBI doubles from freshman 1B Jackson Hobbs and sophomore 2B Davie Morgan after senior catcher Brad Pennington led off the inning with a double. Marietta (37-4) then stole back the lead in the 4th with two runs to go up 3-2.

The Battling Bishops then grabbed the lead right back at 4-3 in the 5th as sophomore CF Drifton Padgett came around to score on an error before a sac fly from Pennington drove in freshman 3B Tyson Bass.

Unfortunately, the Pioneers would then get to Bishop starter Derrick Carter in the 6th inning as they tied the game on a throwing error before a two-run double put Marietta in front to stay at 6-4. Freshman reliever and Pitcher of the Year Danny Thompson then came in and shut down the Pioneers over the final 2 and 2/3 innings striking out two. However, the Bishop offense could not find the tying runs and fell into the loser's bracket.

Pennington led the team with 3 hits going 3 for 3 while Padgett also had a nice game tallying 3 hits and a stolen base as well. Pennington is now hitting a team-best .361 on the season with 46 RBIs.

Carter suffered only his 2nd loss of the season as he threw 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 earned runs on 9 hits and a walk with 3 strikeouts.
