ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Baseball team used stellar pitching to squeak out a 1-0 non-conference win over Ferrum College from Bauer Field Tuesday afternoon.

Wesleyan broke through in the 2nd inning as catcher Jaiden Barker drove in the lone run on a fielder's choice groundout. Sophomore 1B Zach Scott came in to score on the groundout after leading off the inning with a double, his first of two doubles in the game.

Junior CF Drifton Padgett would also double later on in the game but was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple. Junior 2B Davie Morgan also recorded a single while LF Zach Lyon stole a base.

Getting the win on the mound was freshman starter Dylan Cheeley as he was stellar through five innings allowing just one hit and 2 walks while striking out seven. Relievers Alex Crosby and Chris Day then combined to throw two scoreless innings with Day picking up a big strikeout to close out the 7th. Crosby also struck out two over his 1 and 2/3 innings.

Senior Zach Woolard then came on in the 8th to finish the game scoreless and pick up the save on a walk and 3 Ks.

The win improves the Bishops to 2-2 on the season and drops Ferrum to 0-1. Wesleyan returns to action this weekend when they battle CNU on Saturday at 2:00 PM and Susquehanna on Sunday from Virginia.
