Baseball Tabbed First In USA South Preseason Rankings

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Coming off one of the most successful seasons in recent memory, the North Carolina Wesleyan baseball program is projected to win the USA South for the first time since 2007.

The Bishops received 7 of 8 first place votes in the poll and tallied a total of 49 points, which is selected by the conference head coaches. This season looks to be a promising year for Wesleyan returning 8 out of 9 position players from last year's campaign that went 28-17 and lost in the conference championship best of three.

The baseball program is also returning Junior All-American Davie Morgan, and two All-Region Team selections in Junior 1st basemen Jackson Hobbs and Senior reliever Chandler Padgett.

The Bishops also made an addition to the coaching staff this offseason in Derrick Carter. The two time USA South pitcher of the year is excited to get his first spring as a coach started with the pitching staff. When asked what was his favorite part of coaching thus far, Carter replied, "It's honestly seeing the faces of the guys when they hit a big number on the radar gun. There is no better feeling than seeing a guy hit 95 and watching his face light up because his hard work paid off."

Head Coach Greg Clifton also commented on the addition of Carter by saying, "We are really thrilled to have Derrick join our coaching staff this season. His knowledge of the game of baseball and his ability to form lifelong relationships with our players is all you can ask for. It was an absolute honor to coach Derrick here at Wesleyan, and a tremendous honor to work alongside him everyday in his new role with the program."
