Kelly Named Defensive Coordinator for Battling Bishop Football

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan Department of Athletics and head football coach Jeff Filkovski are pleased to announce the addition of Aubrey Kelly to its coaching staff. Kelly, who will serve as Defensive Coordinator, brings a wealth of experience to Wesleyan's staff having guided numerous players to All-Conference and All-American honors in over 20 years of collegiate coaching.

Kelly joins the Bishops after serving one season as the linebacker and special teams coach at Grafton High School in Yorktown, Va. where he helped lead GHS to a 9-3 overall record and an appearance in the State Quarterfinals. Prior to Grafton, Kelly spent nine years at a pair of Division II affiliates: Edinboro University and Millersville University. His two seasons at Edinboro saw him lead the secondary and special teams units while also serving as recruiting coordinator. Previously, he enjoyed a successful 7-year stay at Millersville where he guided the secondary and served as recruiting/video coordinator. During his MU tenure, Kelly's secondary totaled 57 interceptions and his players finished as the team's top tacklers in four of seven seasons. For two years prior to his arrival at Millersville, Kelly was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Indiana State University. While at ISU in 2006, he was selected as one of 25 coaches to attend the NCAA Expert Coaches Academy in Miami, Fla.

Kelly's additional coaching experience include stints at Delaware State University (defensive coordinator), Elizabeth City State University (offensive coordinator/quarterback and receivers coach), Norfolk State (defensive coordinator), Clarion University (defensive coordinator/secondary and kickers coach), Salisbury University (defensive coordinator/head track coach), Southwest Texas State University (receivers, tight ends, and secondary coach) and Southern Connecticut State University (JV head coach). Additionally, from 1998-2001, he served as the head coach at Division III Newport News Apprentice. A member of the American Football Coaches Association and the Black Coaches Association, Kelly has also served summer fellowships for the National Football League's Washington Redskins and Houston Oilers. He is also a three-time guest speaker at various Glazier Clinics held in New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

Kelly is 1985 graduate of James Madison University with his bachelor's degree in Business Administration and an 1989 graudate of Southwest Texas State University with his master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies of Education. He now resides in Rocky Mount.
