Fayetteville, N.C. - Freshman Brandon Thompson rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another, but it would not be enough in Wesleyan's season finale at Methodist as the Bishops fell 38-35. The Monarchs' Landon Cheviron booted home a 30-yard field goal as time expired to secure the MU victory.

The Bishops overcame a 28-14 halfime deficit with trio of unanswered touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters, taking a 35-28 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining. Adrian Minondo tallied the first two TDs on a pair of 2-yard runs, while fellow junior Darian Curley scampered in from one yard out to put the Bishops on top for the first time. Two series later, however, the Monarchs scored their first points of the second half -- a 19-yard touchdown pass from Steve Keoni that knotted the score at 35-35 with 4:01 to go.

On Wesleyan's ensuing possession, Thompson completed a trio of passes and add a 6-yard rush to move the Bishops into Monarch territory. Facing 3rd-and-11 from the MU-30 yardline, Methodist got a huge pick and 48-yard return from Dennis Livers to set up MU's game-winning score.

The first half had seen the Monarchs jump out to a 14-0 lead before Thompson's 3-yard pass to Trey Lancaster got Wesleyan on the board. After MU added two more TDs to forge a 21-point advantage, the freshman QB added a 4-yard run just before the break to cut the deficit in half, 28-14.

Thompson finished 19-of-32 for 233 yards on the day, with Lancaster hauling in seven of those passes for 98 yards and a TD. Defensively, Antonio Johnson racked up 12 tackles, while sophomore Eddie Graham grabbed his sixth interception of the season.

Wesleyan finishes the season 3-7 overall, which included a 3-4 mark in USA South play.
