WINCHESTER, Va.- The NC Wesleyan football team, led by senior Wide Receiver Trey Lancaster and his second straight 200 yard receiving game, unfortunately dropped their first game of the season on Saturday night at Shenandoah University. Lancaster's huge efforts were just not enough as a close game in the third quarter got away from the Bishops as SU went on to win 59-21.

Shenandoah got out to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter with NCW getting on the board with a 6 yard touchdown pass from senior QB Nate Gardner to freshman WR Kevin Alford to complete a 75 yard drive. Sophomore running back Jeffery Black then got Wesleyan within 10 points (14-24) with his one yard TD run in the third quarter. That run completed an impressive 14 play 75 yard drive.

Wesleyan would add another touchdown in the 4th quarter as sophomore WR Dupre Falls caught a 34 yard pass from junior QB Donielle Totten but it would be too late as Shenandoah would add some late scores to go on for the win.

NCWC would put up 434 yards of total offense including 374 through the air. Gardner would throw for 262 yards while Lancaster, the reigning USA South Player of the Week, caught 13 balls for 201 yards with junior tight end Ben Dorfman also adding 69 yards receiving.

Junior DB Marcus Leggett led the defense with 12 tackles while senior linebacker JT Lichtenberger also had double-digit tackles with 10.

Wesleyan falls to 1-1 on the season while SU improves to 2-0. NCWC will next stay on the road to play at Bridgewater College (Va.) (1-1) next Saturday at 7 PM.
