The USA South Athletic Conference announced their Athletes of the Week on Monday and NC Wesleyan junior linebacker, Antonio Johnson, has won the Football Defensive Player of the Week Award for the Oct. 20 games. He was chosen over four other nominees.
The Beaufort, NC linebacker tallied a season-high of 12 total tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery which he returned for a touchdown in a 29-21 win over USA South foe Brevard College.
Johnson notched ten solo tackles and two assisted ones while his sack resulted in a loss of nine yards. His fumble return for a touchdown near the end of the first half was the third consecutive game that he has scored a defensive touchdown as well.
Johnson also returned a fumble vs. Averett and an interception vs. Greensboro. He also has two interceptions on the season, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
He will next lead the 4-2 Bishops when they return home Saturday to host Methodist University at 1 PM on homecoming.
