
USA South Athletes of the Week - Sept. 27, 2021
Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Trevon Crank, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman running back from Gastonia, North Carolina rushed for 107 yards and scored two touchdowns in a 26-21 win over LaGrange last week. Crank carried the ball 15 times for an average of 7.1 yards per attempt and scored on a 50-yard run in the fourth quarter which proved to be the game-winning score. This is Crank's first win as he beat out two other nominees to win.
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Rafa Niederleytner, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior place kicker from Valencia, Spain hit the first two field goals of his career in a 26-21 win over LaGrange last week. His first field goal was from 34 yards while his second was from 33 yards out. Niederleytner also connected on both of his point-after-touchdown attempts. This is Rafa's first Conference Award as he beat out five nominees to win.
MEN'S SOCCER
Men's Soccer Defender of the Week
Tobias Borzel, N.C. Wesleyan - The Litzendorf, Germany senior goalkeeper posted a 2-0 shutout of Mary Washington in the only contest he appeared in last week. Borzel stopped all seven shots he faced to collect his first shutout of the season. This is Borzel's second weekly honor as he also won back in March during the shortened spring 2020-21 season.
