  • Four Bishops Named to NABC Honors Court

    The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has announced its NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2011-12 season. North Carolina Wesleyan had four Battling Bishops garner recognition in the form of Matt Dougherty, John Kostet, Alex Murray and Cornelius Snow. Dougherty, Kostet and Murray are recent graduates of the College, while Snow is a rising senior for head men's basketball coach John Thompson.

    The USA South Athletic Conference has released its 2011-2012 Academic All-Conference Team, and North Carolina Wesleyan is pleased to announce that 58 Battling Bishops have garnered recognition.
  • Wesleyan's John Thompson Joins USA Basketball

    The USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team committee has released its list of coaches and players chosen for the 2012 U18 National Team Training Camp. A trio of experienced and successful college coaches will lead the team, including Billy Donovan (Florida) as head coach, with Mark Few (Gonzaga) and Shaka Smart (Virginia Commonwealth) as assistant coaches. Joining them as a Court Coach at the Training Camp will be North Carolina Wesleyan's John Thompson, who will travel to the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs June 5-12 to offer instruction to the 24 players who have accepted invitations.
  • Athletics Hosts 47th Annual Awards Ceremony

    The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics hosted its 47th Annual Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 16th, in the Garner Lobby of the Dunn Center. Coaches, staff and student-athletes came together to celebrate the accomplishments of both individuals and teams from the 2011-2012 season. Among those athletes and teams, NCWC boasted 50 USA South All-Conference selections, three USA South Championships, two Players of the Year, one Coach of the Year and one NCAA tournament berth. Highlighting the night’s winners were the honors given for the Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Year, along with the Male and Female Athlete of the Year.

    The USA South announced it postseason men's basketball awards on Wednesday, and North Carolina Wesleyan had a trio of student-athletes earn accolades. Domarius Thomas was a First Team All-Conference selection, while fellow senior Matt Dougherty grabbed Honorable Mention status. John Kostet rounded out Wesleyan's award-winners as the Battling Bishops' representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Bishop men cruised to an 88-51 victory behind Cornelius Snow's game-high 17 points, while the Wesleyan women were paced by Tiffany Bell's 21 points in a tough 73-68 loss to the Builders.
