Hot-Shooting Wesleyan Men Race Past WPU, 94-74

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Freshman Kaimonne Douglas and junior D.J. Weaver combined for seven treys and 32 points off the bench to pace a hot-shooting N.C. Wesleyan men's basketball team on Tuesday night in Everett Gym, leading their Battling Bishops to a dominating 94-74 win over William Peace University.

The first half saw NCWC net the first seven points of the contest before the Pacers could get on track offensively. WPU battled back to take its only lead of the night, 18-17, on an old-fashioned three-point play by Jalen Vince at the 11:22 mark. After a Shannon Huff lay-up put Wesleyan back on top, Douglas drained back-to-back baskets to give the Bishops a 24-20 advantage.

Peace stayed close over the next seven minutes, trailing by just six at 35-29 with just over three minutes left in the period. Douglas and Weaver, however, ignited a 15-0 run to end the half that featured a trio of bombs from downtown. The pair scored 13 of the Bishops' points during the game-changing span that ended with Wesleyan holding a 50-29 lead at the break.

WPU never recovered in the second half as the Bishops went on to lead by as many as 32 in the final period. Wesleyan shot nearly 56 percent from the floor on the night, which included a 61.5 percent clip from behind the arc (8-for-13).

Douglas finished with a career-high 19 points, with Weaver chipping in 13 of his own. Sophomore Eric Dortch-Jones and freshman Adrian Moore joined them in double-figures with 12 and 10, respectively.

Shawn Shaffer led a trio of Pacers (4-3) in double-figures with a team-high 18 points.

Now 5-2 on the season, the Bishops will break for exams before returning to action on Saturday, the 13th, versus Mid-Atlantic Christian at home. The game is slated for a 2:00pm tip-off in Everett Gymnasium.
