Bishops Knock Off Monarchs in USA South Hoops Action, 79-74

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Junior Adrian Moore tallied his first career triple-double and freshman A.J. Frye netted a career-high 26 points to lead their Battling Bishop basketball team to a 79-74 victory over Methodist University on Wednesday night in Everett Gym.

The Bishops controlled play from the tip as the Monarchs' led just once on the night, 6-5, less than four minutes into the contest. Moore proceeded to put Wesleyan back on top with a mid-range jumper on the game's next possession, and the Bishops would ride the hot hand of sophomore Chris Braswell to a 44-40 lead at the half.

The second half saw NCWC lead by as many as 12 with 6:26 to go, but a 9-0 run by MU cut the margin to three and made things interesting down the stretch. Frye countered by scoring six of the Bishops' final seven points to secure the much-needed win.

Frye's 26 points saw him knock down 12-of-17 attempts on the night, while Moore earned the program's first triple-double in over a decade with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. Braswell and sophomore Justin Tankelewicz finished with 20 and 10 points, respectively.

Methodist (11-8, 5-2 USA South) was paced by Davion Ayabarreno with 18 points. Jackson Whitley chipped in a double-double of 13 points and 14 boards.

The Bishops (9-8, 2-4 USA South) continue league play this weekend at Covenant on Friday at 5:30pm and Maryville on Saturday at 4:00pm. Links to live coverage will be available via www.ncwcsports.com.
