Rocky Mount, N.C. - Former Bishop standout Brandon Givens saw his professional career take another promising turn last week when the 30-year old was added to the team roster of GIE Maile Matrix. Based near Atlanta, Ga., GIE Maile Matrix is a Southern Division affiliate of the Universal Basketball Association. Givens, who began the season at Los Leones in Chilean Liga Nacional, will be enjoying his second stint with the team.

Givens played last summer at Piratas in the Colombian LPB, where he led the team in scoring at 25.7 points per game and was honored as the Latinbasket.com All-Colombian LPB-1 Import Player of the Year. In addition to First Team accolades, he was named Forward of the Year. Givens' list of past achievements is quite long, in fact, as his five-year pro career has also seen him play in the final of Colombian Liga DirecTV-2 in 2015.

Since departing N.C. Wesleyan, Givens has managed to play on four different continents (Europe, Asia, North America, and South America), enjoying stints in Iraq (Al Kahraba), Luxembourg (Basket Esch), and Spain (Muro Basquet). He is also a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered the top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.

A professional career has been a life-long dream for Givens, who captured the nation's scoring title and set a new program record for scoring average at 26.8 points per game for the Bishops in 2013. Named a First Team All-American and the USA South's Player of the Year that season, the Ruffin, S.C. native is one of 16 Wesleyan players in program history to play professionally.

GIE Maile Matrix kicks off its season January 18th. Please visit the team's website at http://basketball.usbasket.com/team/UBA/GIE-Maile-Matrix/13570 for more information.

Congratulations Brandon!
