Frye Posts Pair of 30-Point Showings in 1-1 Weekend for Bishops

Ferrum, Va. - Sophomore A.J. Frye posted a pair of 30-point showings this weekend as his Battling Bishop men's basketball team split a pair of contests on the road at Pfeiffer and Ferrum.

On Saturday, Wesleyan fell to a talented Pfeiffer University squad by a 115-98 score. The Bishops trailed by just six at the break, 54-48, and used a series of second half runs to stay within striking distance late. Down 99-92 with 4:13 to go, Wesleyan was unable to overcome an 8-1 run by the Falcons that essentially put the game out of reach. Pfeiffer (13-2) racked up 47 points off of turnovers and placed six players in double figures on the day.

Frye completed the double-double with 15 rebounds, while freshman Damon McDowell poured in a career-high 24 points off the bench. They were joined in double-figures by Adrian Moore and Robert Wilson with 16 and 12 points, respectively.

Wesleyan rebounded for a 76-67 USA South win at Ferrum College on Sunday. The Bishops controlled play in the first half, forging a 37-19 halftime advantage and leading by as many as 22 points in the second. The Panthers, however, knocked down eight three-pointers in the final 20 minutes of play to get as close as five points, 65-60, with 4:15 to go. Junior Chris Braswell answered for NCWC with back-to-back lay-ups, while two more buckets from Moore once again put the Bishops up double digits.

The Panthers (4-12, 2-6 USA South) would not recover as the Battling Bishops ran out the clock on an eventual 9-point win.

Frye again notched a double-double with 10 rebounds to go along with his 30 points. Junior Robert Wilson added 13 points, while Moore and Braswell combined for 21 points and 10 assists.

Wesleyan (10-9, 8-3 USA South) hosts Averett University Wednesday night. Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm in Everett Gym.
