Bishop Duo Sweeps USA South Weekly Men's Basketball Awards

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly basketball awards for January 29th with N.C. Wesleyan men's basketball sweeping Player and Rookie of the Week accolades for the first time this season.

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
A.J. Frye, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore center from Wilmington, North Carolina averaged 24.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as the Battling Bishops posted a 2-1 record last week versus USA South members. In an 85-70 win over William Peace, Frye totaled 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. In an 115-98 loss to Pfeiffer, he notched a double-double of 30 points and 15 rebounds with two assists. Finally, in a 76-67 victory over Ferrum, Frye tallied a double-double of 30 points and ten rebounds with one steal and one assist.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Damon McDowell, N.C. Wesleyan
- The freshman guard from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina averaged 10.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game as the Battling Bishops posted a 2-1 record last week versus USA South members. In an 85-70 win over William Peace, McDowell totaled five points, six rebounds and one steal. In an 115-98 loss to Pfeiffer, he contributed a career-high 24 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal. Finally, in a 76-67 victory over Ferrum, McDowell scored two points, grabbed one rebound and dished out one assist.
