Men's Basketball Cruises past Ferrum

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The NC Wesleyan men's basketball team cruised to a 68-49 non-conference win over former rival Ferrum College (Va.) on Saturday at the Mary Washington Tip-Off Classic.

A big first half had the Bishops leading 37-19 at the break as they held Ferrum to 26 percent shooting and zero percent from three-point range while Wesleyan shot 52 percent themselves and 38 percent from three.

NCWC then won the low-scoring second half 31-30 on 37 percent shooting and 50 percent from three. Wesleyan ended up holding Ferrum to just 31 percent shooting for the game and just 19 percent from three while the Bishops shot 43 percent from three and 45 percent overall behind a team-high 15 points and five 3-pointers from senior guard Justin Tankelewicz.

Three other Bishops then finished in double-figure scoring with 10 points apiece including junior center A.J. Frye, and guards Damon McDowell and senior Chris Braswell. Senior forward Rob Wilson then led in rebounds with 10 along with his 7 points, one block, one assist and one steal. Senior forward Chris Sause also finished with 8 points and 3 rebounds.

Junior Forward Ricardo Bullock also led the team with 3 blocks for the second consecutive week while sophomore guard Josh Covington led in assists with four.

Wesleyan improves to 2-0 on the young season and is right back in action on Sunday to play Guilford College (NC) in the first of two meetings this month in the second game of the UMW Tip-Off classic at 1 PM in Virginia.
