ESPN Analyst Richie Schueler to Announce Men's Home Opener Wednesday

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - NC Wesleyan College and the men's basketball program will be treated to a rare opportunity on Wednesday evening as ESPN color basketball analyst Richie Schueler will be in town to announce the men's home opener vs. Guilford College at 7:30 PM on the Wesleyan youtube livestream.

Schueler will be doing the color commentary, along with First Media Radio General Manager Kevin Bullock, who will be doing the play by play duties for the exciting opener. Schueler will also be speaking to student-athletes at 1:00 on Wednesday as well in the Taylor Center.

Since 2012, Schueler has extensively covered several different conferences across the nation, including the Big West, Mountain West, West Coast (WCC), and Big South. 

Schueler delivers an energetic and fun style to the broadcasts taht he is a part of. He utilizes his knowledge from ten years as a college basketball coach by educating the audience from a head coach's perspective. His unique skill set provides insight to the viewers on the psychology happening inside the game, differing coaching decisions, and various in-game situations that occur throughout the course of each broadcast.

Since stepping aside from full-time coaching, Schueler has immersed himself with sportscasting. In addition to his analyst work, he currently hosts "The Coach's Insight", has worked as a play-by-play announcer, and has hosted a local television and radio show. In the offseason, Schueler organizes and coaches numerous skills clinics and international basketball tours.

Schueler has an extensive background in coaching the game of basketball. As a college basketball coach, he spent time at all three NCAA levels: Austin Peay State University (NCAA D1), Wilmington College (NCAA D3), and St. Andrews University (NCAA D2). As the head men's basketball coach at St. Andrews University (N.C.) for four years, Schueler boasted a 100% graduation rate while leading his team to the best school record in 11 years. His recruiting efforts while an assistant coach at Wilmington College (Ohio) contributed to a No. 17 ranking in the 2006 NCAA Top 25 national poll. As a graduate assistant at Austin Peay State University, he was part of their conference championship team en route to playing Louisville in the 2003 NCAA Tournament.

Schueler is a co-founder of STUDENTathleteWorld Tours, a company that actively organizes international tours and coaches young players in competition across the world. He is a licensed FIBA-approved coach (International Basketball Federation), a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), and has actively instructed in nearly 50 basketball camps/clinics around the world. In addition, he is regularly contracted as an Event Director/Talent Evaluator for showcases across the United States.

The Cincinnati, Ohio, native was a member of the Evansville Men's Basketball team (Missouri Valley Conference) under Hall of Fame coach Jim Crews, who also served as head coach at West Point and Saint Louis University. During his playing career, Schueler played on two international basketball tours with Athletes in Action in addition to being selected to play for the Pro Basketball League in Croatia.
