Bishop Men Trounce Huntingdon

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Men's basketball team came out on fire in the first half and never let up in trouncing USA South West Division foe Huntingdon College 96-58 at home Tuesday afternoon.

The Bishops shot a season-best 50 percent from three and 56 percent overall en route to their second straight win over a West Division rival as they improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.  The Bishops are also now 4-0 at home.

Senior forward Robert Wilson led the Bishops with 22 points and 6 assists while also adding 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Sophomore guard Damon McDowell then led Wesleyan with 4 three-pointers in the game as he shot 4of 6 from behind the arc and 7 of 10 overall for 21 points along with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. 

Completing the quartet of double-digit scorers was junior center A.J. Frye with 18 points and 6 rebounds and senior point guard Chris Braswell with 11 points. Braswell also added 4 assists and a team-high 4 steals coming off his recent Player of the Week win.

Also scoring 5 points apiece for the Bishops on the day was junior forward Ricardo Bullock, freshman forward Isaiah Lewis, junior center Mitch Layton, and sophomore guard Alex Clinkscales. Bullock also added 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 assists to his day as well.

Wesleyan out-rebounded the Hawks 42-36 while the Bishops assisted on 24 of 35 made baskets along with forcing 16 HC turnovers.

The Bishops shot an impressive 55 percent in the first half and 44 percent from three while holding the Hawks to 22 percent shooting. The men then increased their shooting in the second half as they shot a remarkable 62.5 percent from three and 58 percent overall with HC, now 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference, shooting just 28 percent. Wesleyan got out to a 16-2 run to start the second half as well to increase their lead to 64-29.

The men are next in action on Saturday as they remain home to open East Division play vs. Averett University (1-7, 1-1) at 2 PM
