Men Roar Past Pride

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team roared past conference rival Greensboro College by scoring a season high 108 points in their 16-point win on the road Wednesday evening.

Junior center A.J. Frye led the Bishops with a season-high of 33 points on 14 of 18 shooting along with 7 rebounds as a quartet of Bishops finished in double-figure scoring. Wesleyan improved to 13-2 on the season and 6-1 in the conference with the 108-92 win.

Wesleyan shot 60 percent in the first half and 50 percent from three in getting out to a 55-45 halftime edge. The Bishops then kept up their impressive shooting by going 54 percent in the second half to outscore the Pride again 53-47. Greensboro fell to 1-12 with the loss as each team shot 40 percent from three in the game.

Senior guard Justin Tankelewicz ended up scoring a season-high of 19 points on 5 threes while fellow senior, forward Robert Wilson, then added a double-double of 17 points and a season-high of 11 rebounds with a block. Sophomore guard Damon McDowell then was the final Bishop to finish in double digits scoring 17 points with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, a block, and 4 three-pointers.

Junior forward Ricardo Bullock then made his return to the lineup by posting 8 points with 4 rebounds, an assist and two blocks while senior guard Chris Braswell also finished with 8 points along with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Josh Covington also played a good game off the bench in relief of Braswell scoring 6 points with a season high of 8 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

The Bishops will now enjoy some time off before getting back in action next Wednesday, Jan. 16, when they travel to nearby foe William Peace University (N.C.) at 5:30 PM.
