Bishop Men Compete with Appalachian St. but Come Up Short

BOONE, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team competed hard with Div. I foe Appalachian State University on the road Sunday, but came up short falling 81-57.

Wesleyan went back and forth with the Mountaineers throughout the first half. They would cut into ASU's lead on senior Damon McDowell's three-pointer with three minutes left in the first to trail just 32-30.

However, ASU finished the half on a 10-2 run to take a 42-32 lead at the break. The Mountaineers would then step up their defense and hold the Bishops to just 25 points in the second half en route to the win as they improve to 3-1 on the year. Wesleyan falls to 1-3 with the defeat.

Each team shot around 40 percent overall for the game, but the difference came at the three-point arc as ASU made 9 threes while holding Wesleyan to just two.

Junior Isaiah Lewis led the Bishops with 21 points on 8 of 13 shooting along with 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. Junior forward Sal-Bey Young also played well defensively with 7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks while scoring 4 points.

Also scoring in double-figures were guard/forwards D. McDowell and sophomore Tim Pettiford as they scored 11 and 10 points respectively while freshman guard Khalid Chavis-Hinds also added 6 points.
