Lewis Surpasses 1,000 Point Milestone

Rocky Mount, NC -  Senior forward Isaiah Lewis accomplished a feat only few Bishop basketball players ever have. He is now the 21st player in Wesleyan history to join the 1000 point club after getting the milestone at Methodist. A proud product of Knightdale High School, Lewis came to Wesleyan in the fall of 2019 to pursue a degree in business administration.

On the basketball court, Isaiah is an example of how hard work and dedication to your craft pays off. He did not play much in his rookie campaign, but with a great offseason, he prepared himself for an improved sophomore campaign. Usually in sports, the term "sophomore slump" is used on a regular basis, but not with Isaiah. He averaged 7 points and 5 rebounds a game and played around 15 minutes a game which is a testament to his work ethic.

In the 2020 campaign, Lewis was on track to have a breakout year, but unfortunately the program only played 17 games due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 17 games that season, he still managed to average 12.9 points a game and over 4 rebounds a contest. The Bishops were 8-2 in USA South play and Isaiah played a big role in the tremendous start to the season.

Moving forward to last season in his junior campaign after a long lay-off due to Covid, Lewis averaged over 13.4 ppg, and tremendously helped the team in rebounding with almost 8 a game.

This season, Isaiah is leading the Bishops in scoring in their 1st place campaign once again, averaging over 15 points a game and 7.5 rebounds to go along with it.

This milestone now puts Isaiah in two categories in the record books. Remarkably in the shortened 2020-21 season, he recorded 32 blocks which puts him 13th best ever in a single season. In points scored, now chases John Morrison who scored 1,095 points in his career and is next on the all-time scoring list.

What makes Isaiah special to the basketball program is the person he is. Isaiah is an extremely valuable asset to the university and carries himself professionally on and off the court. He is always respectful and kind to everyone he meets, and treats the campus community with the utmost respect.

In his senior season, Isaiah has become a leader in the locker room and an integral part to this year's team. Head Coach John Thompson commented on Lewis, "Isaiah is a great example of what hard work, perseverance, staying the course, and being a great teammate looks like. He has continued to learn and improve, even through this season, because he is so coachable. We are proud of all he has accomplished thus far."

The North Carolina Wesleyan University Athletic Department congratulates Isaiah on his tremendous accomplishment, and can not wait to see what the future holds for him.
