NCWC Wraps Up Season at USA South Championship

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan golf team wrapped up its 2015 slate over the weekend at the USA South Conference Championship held at Rocky Mount's Benvenue Country Club. The Battling Bishops carded an 8th-place finish as a team and were led by freshman David White, who posted a three-day 230 with rounds of 75, 74 and 81 to place 21st among the 45-man field.

Wesleyan beat out league foe Piedmont College in the standings and finished just six strokes behind Averett University after besting both squads in the final two rounds. NCWC's final round 313 also beat out eventual 6th-place finisher Maryville College.

White's day two 74 was a tourney-best for the Bishops. Freshman teammate Ben Gillon sandwiched an 81 between a pair of 77 rounds to finish five strokes behind White in 27th-place. Junior Tommy Nakamura was one stroke back of Gillon, turning in rounds of 83, 75 and 78. Freshman Michael Madden and sophomore Matthew May rounded out Wesleyan's scorers in 38th- and 45-place, respectively.

Leading throughout the tournament, LaGrange College captured its second consecutive championship. The Panthers finished 19 strokes ahead of 2nd-place Methodist and 33 strokes in front of 3rd-place Huntingdon. Individually, tournament medalist honors were captured by LaGrange's Cory Howard, who won the USA South Championship for the second consecutive year. He led wire-to-wire and tallied a three-day total of 210, which was six-under par.
