Bishop Golf Opens Spring Season at Echo Farms

Wilmington, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan's golf team opened its 2015 spring season over the weekend at Mars Hill's Weekend in Wilmington. The two-day event was held at the par-72 Echo Farms Golf Club and featured six teams. Behind freshman Ben Gillon's 4th-place billing, the Bishops were able to card a 3rd-place finish as a team, trailing only the host's A & B squads.

Gillon turned in a pair of 76 rounds to finish at 8-over for the tourney. Freshman David White rebounded from an 87 in the opening round for a team-best 73 on day two, finishing 9th among the 30-man field. Michael Madden trailed White by just two strokes, shooting a 74 in the final round to wrap up 11th-place.

Tommy Nakamura and Matthew May rounded out Wesleyan's competitors, with Nakamura's 84 and 80 helping the Bishops to team rounds of 335 and 303.  NCWC's final round 303 ranked as the 3rd-best team round of the tourney, trailing only eventual champion Mars Hill.

Medalist honors went to the host's Charles Hartzog, who carded rounds of 70 and 69 to finish 5-under. His team turned in team rounds of 302 and 291 for a two-day total of 593 (+17).

Next up for Wesleyan is the Barton College Intercollegiate slated for March 16th and 17th at the Wilson Country Club.
