Bishops Finish 2nd in Final Fall Tourney, Climb to #17 Nationally

Rome, Ga. - The Battling Bishop golf team wrapped up its fall slate on Monday and Tuesday at the Chick-Fil-A Intercollegiate hosted by Berry College. After carding a runner-up finish, NCWC climbed to #17 in the Golfstat.com's national rankings.

The three-round event was held at the par-72 Stonebridge Golf Club in Rome, Georgia. A rain delay of three hours during the first round resulted in 27 holes being played on Monday, followed by the final 27 holes being played on Tuesday. After completing day one, the Bishops found themselves 19 shots off the lead.

Behind the play of sophomore Luke Thornton and freshman Juan de Giacomi on day two, Wesleyan was able to card a tourney-best team score of 284 in the final round, getting as close as two shots at one point. Unfortunately, the Bishops were unable to overtake Oglethorpe University for top honors. OU turned in a three-day total of 866 (286, 285, 295) to finish just 2-over, while the Bishops' 874 (294, 296, 284) was eight strokes of the pace.

Luke Thornton (71, 75, 71) and Juan de Giacomi (72, 72, 73) received All-Tournament honors after tying for 7th-place overall with individual totals of 217 (+1). Sophomore Mariano Silvestri also carded a top-10 billing at +3 (76, 73, 70), while junior Grady Anderson finished tied for 12th-place at +5 (75, 76, 70). Silvestri and Anderson's final rounds of 70 were the Bishops' two best individual scores of the event.

Wesleyan recorded top-5 finishes in all four of its fall tournaments, and the Bishops' #17 national ranking is the highest in program history. The team will now begin preparations for what looks to be a promising spring season.
