Golf in 5th after First Round at Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C.- The #11 NC Wesleyan Golf team is currently in a tie for 5th place out of 18 teams with #9 Washington & Lee after the first round of the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Tournament at Sedgefield GC in Greensboro, NC on Monday afternoon.

Host and 8th ranked Guilford College is leading the event after a first round 287 as they sit tied with crosstown rival #15 Greensboro College for first place. Wesleyan's USA South rivals #10 Methodist and #4 Huntingdon are then sitting 3rd and 4th just a few strokes ahead of the Bishops and their score of 299.

Junior Mariano Silvestri is pacing the Bishops in 10th place with his first round +1 over 72 while sophomore teammate Juan de Giacomi is tied for 14th overall with a 73. Junior Luke Thornton is then in 30th with his first round 76 (+5) while senior Grady Anderson shot a 78 and sits in 43rd place. Sophomore Inaki Beitia is also competing and is in 49th place out of 90 after he kept all of the Bishops under 80 with his first round 79.

The men will now tee off for the second and final round Tuesday morning from the Dye Course at Sedgefield CC.
