#11 Golf Finishes 6th at Guilford Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 11th ranked NC Wesleyan College Golf Team ended up placing 6th at Guilford College's O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Tournament held at the Sedgefield Dye Course CC on Tuesday.

Wesleyan finished alone in 6th, one stroke back of conference rival Greensboro College, who NCWC actually beat by 11 strokes in the second round, 295-306. Wesleyan's second round score was the 5th best of the day led by senior Grady Anderson's -2 under par 70 on day two.

Host and #8 Guilford won the Tournament with an even par 568 outdistancing 2nd place Huntingdon by 6 strokes. Methodist was then 3rd at 583 with Wesleyan in 6th at 594.

Junior Mariano Silvestri paced the Bishops overall with his 147 score and a tie for 16th place as he shot rounds of 72 (+1) and 75. Anderson and sophomore teammate, Juan de Giacomi, then tied for 23rd at 148 with Giacomi shooting rounds of 73 and 75 while Anderson shot a 78 on day one before improving by 8 strokes on day two.

Junior Luke Thornton then completed the scoring by also improving by one with his 75 on day two to shoot a 151 and place 32nd. Sophomore Inaki Beitia also placed 50th overall improving by 4 shots in round two with his 75 to finish at 154.

Huntingdon's Drew Mathers won the tournament with consecutive rounds of 69 to finish at -4 under par.

The Golf team has now completed their fall season and will look to get back on the links in the spring.
