Bishops Earn Second Shutout with Win over Eagles

Fayetteville, N.C. - The Battling Bishop men's soccer team scored a trio of second half goals to tally a 3-0 win over Bridgewater College on Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville. The victory concluded Methodist University's season-opening tournament, which saw Wesleyan out-score its opponents 10-0 over the two-day span.

Sunday's match was evenly played through the first 45 minutes, with the Eagles holding a slim 5-4 advantage in shots. Neither team, however, could scratch a goal en route to a 0-0 halftime score.

NCWC junior Matt Moore changed that in the 60th minute when he booted home a Julius Oskarsson pass from the left endline. Freshman Charles Chapin made it 2-0 in the 74th minute by heading home his first collegiate goal off a Samba Cande assist, and sophomore Sebastian Wiiala later found Cande at the 82:56 mark to close out the scoring.

Freshman keeper Jesper Olsson moved to 2-0 on the season, making one save on seven shots to secure the shutout. Wesleyan out-shot Bridgewater 9-2 in the final period.

The Bishops (2-0) return to action on Friday at Christopher Newport University. The match is slated for a 5:00pm start in Newport News.
