Bishops End Regular Season, Prepare for Tourney

LaGrange, Ga. - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team wrapped up its regular season slate over the weekend with a pair of USA South road wins at Huntingdon and LaGrange. The Bishops downed the Hawks 2-1 on Saturday and knocked off the Panthers 1-0 on Sunday to finish with an 8-2 league mark, which guarantees that Wesleyan will host a USA South Tournament first round match next Saturday at Scalf Field.

At Huntingdon, freshman Abdoulie Wadda scored the only goal of the first half in the 37th minute, unassisted. Sophomore Daniel Kamdem later booted home the eventual gamewinner at the 55:35 mark off an assist from fellow sophomore Caetano Viegas.

Huntingdon avoided the shutout with a score in the 72nd minute, and the Hawks proceeded to get off a pair of shots at the equalizer in the final 15. NCWC keeper Jesper Olsson saved the latter en route to the win in net.

At LaGrange, the Bishops' Samba Cande tallied the only goal of the match at the 71:25 mark off a feed from sophomore Halldor Bjarneyjarson. NCWC out-shot the Panthers 22-6 on the day, with Olsson making a pair of saves to secure the shutout.

The Bishops (12-5-1) will have to wait for the completion of conference play on Tuesday and Wednesday before final seeding and opponents are released for Saturday's first round action. As one of the top four seeds, Wesleyan is certain to host.  As a USA South event, ADMISSION WILL BE CHARGED FOR ALL FANS!  Opponent, game time and ticket prices will be posted later in the week, so please continue to check www.ncwcsports.com for updates!
