Boompong Nets Two Goals, Bishop Cruise to 5-1 Win at WPU

Raleigh, N.C. - Freshman Kobi Boompong netted a pair of goals, including the gamewinner, to lead his N.C. Wesleyan men's soccer team to a 5-1 win at William Peace University on Tuesday.

Sophomore Sheriff Secka got Wesleyan on the board first, heading home an Olafur Einarsson corner kick in the 14th minute. The Bishops would take that 1-0 lead into the break.

The Pacers struck first in the second half when Dylan Shields knotted the score with a goal at the 53:12 mark. Boompong, however, countered with the eventual gamewinner less that two minutes later off an assist by Jordan Davis. It was all Bishops from there as goals by Alex Andrade (61' unassisted), Boompong (65' from Baboucarr Njie), and Caetano Viegas (73' from Thorfinnur Thorfinnsson) secured the 5-1 final.

NCWC dominated the shot count 23-5, while Bishop keeper Alex Magner tallied two saves. WPU goalie Christian Ortiz made nine stops on the day.

Wesleyan (8-4, 5-0 USA South) continues USA South play this weekend on the road at Huntingdon and LaGrange.
