Njie Highlights NCWC's USA South Men's Soccer Award Winners

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its All-Conference awards in the sport of men's soccer. As the league's Rookie of the Year, Wesleyan's Baboucarr Njie led eight Battling Bishops garnering accolades.

Njie, a freshman midfielder from Washington, D.C., made an immediate impact for the Bishops this season and commanded the center of the pitch. In starting all but one of 16 games thusfar, he has tallied 16 points on seven goals and two assists with three gamewinning scores. In USA South action, he notched ten points on four goals and two assists. For his efforts, Njie earned First Team All-Conference honors.

Joining Njie on the First Team were forward A.J. Wadda and defender Drew Wiltse. Wadda currently leads the Bishops with eight goals scored, while Wiltse helped NCWC post five shutouts defensively.

Wesleyan had four players named to the Second Team. Sophomore Olafur Einarsson and senior Caetano Viegas were both honored at forward, and they were complimented by freshman Kobi Boompong in the midfield. The trio combined to notch 19 goals and 10 assists for 58 of the team's total points during the regular season. Junior goalkeeper Alex Magner was also a Second Teamer after tallying four shutouts and a 0.89 goals-against-average in conference action.

Senior Thorfinnur Thorfinnsson rounded out Wesleyan's honorees as an Honorable Mention defender.  He was also tabbed the Bishops' representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

The 2016 USA South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament is set to get underway this weekend, and as the tourney's #2 seed, the Battling Bishops will host #7 seed Piedmont College on Sunday, October 30th, at Scalf Field. The match is slated for a 1:00pm start.

No pass lists will be honored for this USA South event. Tickets are $6/person, $3/student with ID. The NCWC Student Affairs office has graciously offered to pay for the first 50 students in attendance. A sign-up sheet will be available at the ticket gate beginning at 12 noon.
