Bishops Advance to Tourney Semifinals with 4-0 Shutout of Piedmont

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The men's soccer team of N.C. Wesleyan advanced to the semifinal round of the 2016 USA South Men's Soccer Tournament with a 4-0 shutout of 7th-seeded Piedmont College on Sunday at Scalf Field.

Junior Jordan Davis gave the Bishops all the offense they would need in the 13th minute when he blasted a shot from 20 yards off a cross from Baboucarr Njie. Senior Alex Andrade made it 2-0 at the half with a one-timer off a Caetano Viegas assist.

It was more of the same in the second half as A.J. Wadda and Viegas added insurance goals in the 63rd and 66th minutes, respectively. Davis and freshman Benjamin Osei were credited with assists on the scores for the Bishops, who out-shot the Lions 21-3 on the day.

NCWC goalie Alex Magner made a pair of saves to secure the shutout, while PC keeper Elliot Sailes made a trio of stops.

Friday's semifinals and Saturday's title match will be played at Maryville College. The 2nd-seeded Bishops (13-5) will face 3rd-seeded Greensboro College on Friday at 4:00pm with a spot in the tournament championship on the line. NCWC downed the Pride by a 1-0 score in their regular season meeting at Greensboro.
