Men's Soccer to Play for USA South Tourney Championship

Maryville, Tenn. - The 2016 USA South Men's Soccer Tournament semifinals took place on Friday, November 4th, in Maryville, Tennessee on the campus of Maryville College as the two top seeds collected wins to advance to the championship game.

In the first semifinal, 2nd-seeded N.C. Wesleyan's Jordan Davis supplied the only scoring of the match as he scored on a free kick in the sixth minute as the Bishops topped 3rd-seeded Greensboro, 1-0. The N.C. Wesleyan defense limited Greensboro to just three shots-on-goal.

In semifinal number two, top-seeded Maryville won a 2-1, double-overtime, thriller over 5th-seeded Methodist. The Monarchs opening the scoring with a goal from Austin Lang in the 81st minute but it didn't take long for the Scots to answer when John Rakhmonberdiev scored two minutes later to tie the match and force overtime. In the third minute of the second overtime, Rakhmonberdiev scored his second goal of the match as he knocked in the game-winner for Maryville.

The tournament title contest will take place on Saturday, November 5th, at 6:00pm. N.C. Wesleyan will look to earn the program's third all-time USA South Tournament championship and first since 2008, while Maryville attempts to grab the title for the first time.
